Deccan Chargers won by 8 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders
Deccan Chargers started their road to redemption in the second edition of the Indian Premier League on the perfect note as they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets with almost seven overs to spare in Cape Town on Sunday evening to get their campaign off to a winning start.Gibbs remained unbeaten on 43 off 26 balls, and hit five boundaries and a six during his stint in the middle, while Sharma had three hits to the fence and two over it during his 32-balls knock of 36 not out.
frist Knight Riders captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to bat first on a difficult but not unplayable pitch, and his decision backfired as the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team lost wickets at regular intervals in the wake of some disciplined bowling and outstanding fielding by the Chargers' bowlers and fielders. The Chargers, who finished last in the points table in the inaugural edition of the IPL, had said that they have the squad and confidence to put in a better performance this year, and the Hyderabad-based team certainly have made a positive start on Chasing a meagre total of 102, Herschelle Gibbs and Rohit Sharma put on an unbroken partnership of 69 runs in just over eight overs, to ensure that the Chargers' would have the perfect start to the second edition of the IPL. The Knight Riders did dismiss Chargers' captain Adam Gilchrist and VVS Laxman, with 35 runs on the board, but Gibbs and Sharma ensured that there wouldn't be any further hiccups on the road to victory.West Indian import Fidel Edwards was the most economical of the Chargers' bowlers with magical figures of 4-1-6-0, while RP Singh (4-22) was the most successful bowler for the Hyderabad team. Pragyan Ojha and Scott Styris picked up a couple of wickets with Harmeet chipping in with Ganguly's wicket.
